Building Owners – Do you know your EUI?Location: Conference Room 202 • Speaker: Arthur Hallstrom, P.E. AD Hall & Associates
Building Owners – Do you know your EUI?
Sponsored by: WV ASHRAE EUI stands for Energy Use Intensity. Measured in BTUs/sq foot. EUI is to buildings as MPG is to vehicles. Very valuable info. Every building has an EUI. ASHRAE has defined EUIs, how they are calculated, and ways to lower your EUI energy use. You, as building owner, with the help of energy professionals, can set an EUI target for your buildings and achieve it. In this session, you will learn how EUI is calculated, how that EUI compares with peer buildings, and what target EUI can be achieved using high performance designs and ASHRAE DBOSS (Dynamic Building Optimization System and Services). Session will also cover how minimum EUI changes with different versions of the State ASHRAE 90.1 Energy Code and why public EUI disclosure is generally considered a good thing. Low EUIs can save up to 30% of the building operating cost and is a financially sound investment. If you are a building owner, designer, contractor, ESCO or a service company, this session is for you.

CO2 Monitoring for Outdoor Airflow and Demand-Controlled VentilationLocation: Conference Room 202 • Speaker: Thomas M. Lawrence, Ph.D. The University of Georgia
CO2 Monitoring for Outdoor Airflow and Demand-Controlled Ventilation
Sponsored by: WV ASHRAE A number of programs and standards that exist for buildings today specify the use of outdoor air monitoring. Monitoring is to be done either based on CO2 levels in the occupied space or actual measurement of outdoor airflow, depending on the space design occupancy and ventilation type (mechanical or natural). Current standards or program descriptions do not provide detailed guidance for determining what level of CO2 should be considered the maximum concentration to expect, and those that do provide guidance are generally based on a single value above the ambient concentration. This session describes how to determine a level for CO2 concentrations for an outdoor airflow monitoring program or as part of the upper control limit for a demand-controlled ventilation system.

Sponsored by: West Virginia Water Environment Association State Revolving Fund (SRF) programs in West Virginia and in all states require participating utilities to show that basic features of an asset management plan are in place. Developing an asset management plan will benefit utilities in other ways, including justification for budgets and rate changes and in developing an action plan for how the utility can most cost-effectively maintain, repair, replace, and supplement their existing infrastructure to reliably serve customers in the future. This presentation will provide an overview of how to develop an asset management plan that is tailored to a utility such that it can be practically implemented, confidently set budgets and rates, and understand the needs of their systems. The ‘Green Awakening’: The Coming Carbon Economy and Determining Your Building’s CO2 Footprint
Sponsored by: WV ASHRAE Awareness is rising within society as a whole about the issue of determining a building’s carbon footprint. New regulations are in works that will require compilation of greenhouse gas emissions, and programs likely will come about that involve carbon emissions trading or perhaps a ‘carbon tax’. In a period with increased awareness of the potential for global climate change, the building industry may soon be required to account for carbon emissions in existing or future projects. This session provides an overview of the rapidly evolving regulatory and economic market changes, and discusses methods and procedures for completing a building CO2 footprint.

High Performance Building Design – What the Future holds for the Direction for our Industry
Sponsored by: WV ASHRAE During the past two decades we have seen the growth and maturation of the green or high-performance building design concept. The U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED program was one of the main pioneers in this and ASHRAE’s Standard 189.1 helped evolve this concept into mandatory building codes. This session provides an overview of how building systems have evolved to meet the demands for green building design and where we are headed in the future in this arena. Also covered are topics such as the evolution of building codes to include green or sustainability features, how a building designer can include these concepts in their designs, the impact of new technologies such as a smart grid and BIM on the design, and discussion on how this will impact the industry

Sponsored by: International Right of Way Association A basic description of subsurface strata and the position of Marcellus Shale, both stratigraphically and in importance to the gas industry. We will explore some of the issues that arise when the subsurface becomes congested with rights: production and storage strata conflicts; storage, coal bed methane and production strata conflicts; and the need for precise determination ownership when going from top hole to bottom hole in drilling opinions. This presentation will cover title examinations to determine subsurface ownership and rights, rectifying conflicts in the record, obtaining drill through agreements from landowners, if necessary, and past and potential legal cases resulting from conflict.

How to Succeed with Your Green Infrastructure ProjectLocation: Parlor C • Speaker: Kari Mackenbach, ms consultants
How to Succeed with Your Green Infrastructure Project
Sponsored by: ms consultants, inc As communities become more aware of the many benefits of green infrastructure, they are seeking out more information on how to implement cost effective, sustainable programs. Many communities have adopted performance standards or incentives promoting green infrastructure and many more have built demonstration projects. Barriers to green infrastructure can arise throughout the development process – from the design of green infrastructure systems to their permitting and installation – but these hurdles are being broken down. Being able to pick the right green infrastructure practice type (bio infiltration, pervious applications, tree boxes etc.) is one of the first steps to a good, sustainable project. New technology advancements and low cost curves have created more opportunities for linear applications within the road-right-of way. We will focus on operation and maintenance successes for this presentation as part of an overall strategy to effectively influence the selection of the type of green infrastructure practice for specific situations._x000D_ _x000D_
